Buyers looking for the best small SUV may feel intimidated by the vast selection of vehicles available to choose from. However, there’s no need to feel challenged; that’s why we’re reviewing the top selections for you, so that you can choose what you like without having to worry about quality.

No matter what kind of SUV you’re looking for, there’s one here to suit your needs. Here are 4 of the best options to choose from when looking for a compact SUV.

The Subaru Forester

The Forester is popular among owners for its improved design, with traditional SUV-style bodywork and emphasis on passenger and driver comfort. This vehicle offers standard all-wheel drive, two rows of seating, fuel economy, and powerful engines.

Although it earned rave reviews (including the Motor Trend’s Sport Utility of the Year award), the Forester has been criticized for having its outdated four-speed automatic feature; reviews have also highlighted its tendency to pitch and roll more than competitors.

The Toyota RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 is hailed by reviewers for its powerful base engine, as well as the optional V-6 engine which is the most powerful in its class but still effective at delivering excellent fuel economy.

Particularly well-reviewed design features include an optional third-row seat (which has been described as too cramped for adults but perfect for children), plenty of cargo space, and excellent safety ratings. Cons of purchasing this vehicle include minimal interior design and difficult-to-access top-tether anchors.

The Ford Escape Hybrid

The Ford Escape Hybrid is unique in its accomplishment as the leading SUV in fuel economy, offering 34 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, surpassing the numbers of small economy vehicles.

A powerful gasoline engine and quite performance make this SUV a favorite among reviewers, who are also impressed with the space and comfort level of the interior as well as the Escape being the IIHS Top Safety Pick. Negative reviews mentioned cheap interior parts and lack of power for passing on the highway.

The Nissan Rogue

The Nissan Rogue is most popular for its design, sporting a jaunty look that earns it extra points for aestheticism, as well as for the ease of driving—reviewers state that the Rogue handles like a car.

Additional perks include comfortable seats, good safety ratings, and affordability. Reviewers were less than impressed with the loudness of this vehicle, its lack of cargo space in comparison to competitors, and poor rear visibility.

With these choices, selecting your new SUV is an easy process! Should any small SUVs be added to the list? Leave us your thoughts!

The Nissan SUV Murano is a SUV that is mid-sized and the first one was manufactured in 2002 but sold as a 2003 model. This was introduced as the first crossover for Nissan in the USA as we ll as Canada.

The first design of the Nissan SUV Murano was originally based around the platform that was used on the Altima. In 2004 the European version Murano became available and comes in only one version. This was considered Nissan’s only crossover until 2007.

That is when the Nissan Rogue was introduced. The Murano is a decent size and is between the Pathfinder and Xterra. The price is a little higher than that of the Pathfinder. In 2003 the Murano was awarded the Truck of the Year in North America. It’s been named the best premium SUV of its class by AutoPacific. It is named the 4th most affordable midsized vehicle in its class. The Nissan Murano offers its buyers many upgrades.

The Nissan Murano comes in two generations. The first one was powered from a 3.5 litre V6 engine that is also used in other models from Nissan such as the Altima, Nissan 350Z, and Mazima. THe Murano comes with front-wheel drive and all wheel drive that is optional.

The Murano is the biggest SUV that utilizes CVT. It gets 18 mpg in city driving, and on the highway it averages 23 mpg. Comes with airbags, head restraints and a steel cabin as safety features. The Nissan Murano also received a 5 star crash test rating in all the categories.

The 2006 version was updated by getting LED tailamps, standard information screen, LED turn signals and a back up camera. Also included is a GPS and front end that has been redesigned with trim updates as well. The 2008 model was skipped. Nissan introduced the Murano’s next generation as a 2009. Sales for it actually began in early 2008 as this version was introduced at the Auto Show that was held in Los Angeles in 2007.

This version is offered in three trims. They are a standard trim, mid grade, and a top of the line trim. Some options that are only available on the LE grade are fold up seats, iPod integration, hard drive based and a few more upgrades. Nissan seems to keep this SUV upgraded and this car is reasonably priced. A great family car as well and has high safety ratings.

All four trims include safety features such as brake assist, electronic stability control, side curtain airbags, 4 wheel disc brakes, and a few more features. The second generation was awarded a 4 start rating in frontal crash and 5 stars for side impact crash by the NHTSA. These ratings were worse than the first.

In 2008 Nissan introduced the Murabo in Japan. The Murano is priced between 3,150,000 and 4,042,500 yen which is far more pricey than the first generetion is. This vehicle is hoping to sell in over 170 countries worldwide. In Japan the vehicle is targeted at men who are in their early 20s to mid 40s.

Nissan’s renowned 3.5-liter, DOHC 24-valve V-6 engine produces 240 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and has been on Ward’s Top Ten Engines list for 13 years. This low-emissions engine achieves 20-25 mpg and features a standard keyless entry push-button start.

The multi-point fuel injection system guarantees a more precise delivery of fuel which improves cylinder-to-cylinder distribution, thereby allowing the vehicle to consume much less energy than it would with a carburetor.

Going for a Drive
Murano’s second generation advanced Xtronic CVT™ (continuously variable transmission) ensures a smooth ride while promoting better acceleration and an mpg rating that puts it in the top half of its class for fuel efficiency.

The four-wheel independent suspension complements its sharp reflexes and overall excellent handling characteristics. Stopping on a dime is effortless with antilock disc brakes with BrakeAssist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and standard rear window and LED taillights allow ease in reversibility.

Optional features include a roof rack, power lift gate, bi-xenon headlights, and power moon roof. Drivers have extensive towing possibilities with Murano’s 35 cubic feet of storage and a 3,500 pound towing capacity.

Safety
2010 Nissan Murano received the highest IICS ratings for front- side- and rear-impact evaluations, as well as a 5-star rating for side-impact crash safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

In addition to standard front- and side- impact air bags, all Murano models come equipped with active head restraints and an electronic stability system with traction control. Side curtain airbags are also included for rollover protection.

With such remarkable standard features, impeccable safety ratings, and an affordable cost, it’s no wonder the Murano has received notable reviews. An innovative, environmentally-friendly vehicle, this crossover is sure to turn heads while changing the way we think about driving.
